Understanding Spiritual Health & Body Image
Spiritual Health Definition
Spiritual health is a state of balance in your mind, body, and spirit. A balance that you achieve from a nurturing relationship with God.
What are 4 examples of spiritual health…
Consider putting these four examples of spiritual wellness into practice:
1. Pray
As a Christian woman, a connection with God through prayer is the foundation of your spiritual health.
Prayer is one of your many gifts from Christ… you have direct access to the throne of grace!
Your journey to improve your spiritual health and overcome your body image issues begins with nurturing this deep connection with Him.
2. Read Your Bible
The Word of God — it is SO underused…
The Bible is one beautiful (and powerful) love story of grace! Your spiritual health and body image will improve exponentially when you consistently meditate on and study God’s Word.

3. Fast
Fasting is another example of spiritual health…
In fact, so much so that Jesus addressed it! Take a look at what Jesus said to the disciples:
Fasting is when you shift your gaze from worldly things and focus entirely on God.
The truth is, when you fast, you’re saying to God and your own heart: “You, Lord, are my priority. And I’m serious about our relationship.”
Fasting isn’t about deprivation but about realignment. Firstly, it’s about gaining a fresh perspective, a God-focused viewpoint. Secondly, it’s about leaning on God, relying on His strength rather than our own.
4. Community
If you’re anything like me, you tend to isolate.
What I mean is when you’re not feeling too hot about yourself, you withdraw from sharing your life with others — even loved ones.
But God wants us to fellowship…
Undoubtedly, your spiritual wellness will improve when you surround yourself with other believers.
- Find a couple of more spiritually mature women that you identify with.
- And ask them if they’d be willing to support and encourage you in your spiritual wellness journey.

Body Image Definition
Now, let’s talk about body image…
Body image is the mental picture you have of your physical self, including your feelings about your body’s size, shape, and appearance.
It’s how you perceive your body and how you believe others perceive you.
Body Image Distortion
Sometimes, this mental picture of your body becomes distorted. It may cause you to view your body through a lens that’s not reflective of reality.
This distortion can lead to negative body image — meaning you feel dissatisfied with your body or focus overly on perceived flaws.
What are the 4 types of body image…
My beautiful friend, your relationship with your body is complex.
It’s not just about what you see in the mirror…
It goes deeper — touching various aspects of your being.
There are generally four types of body image…
1. Perceptual Body Image
This is how you see your body…
It’s like looking in a mirror and noticing your shape, size, and appearance.
Sometimes, this perception aligns with reality — and at other times — it might not.
2. Affective Body Image
This is how you feel about your body…
It’s the emotions that bubble up when you think about your body.
These emotions could range from love and acceptance to frustration and dissatisfaction.
3. Cognitive Body Image
This is what you believe about your body…
It’s the thoughts and beliefs that fill your mind when you consider your physical self.
And, of course, personal experiences, societal norms, and media messages can influence these beliefs.
4. Behavioral Body Image
This is how you behave based on your perceptions, feelings, and beliefs about your body.
It could be seen in how you dress, how you interact with others, or even how you carry yourself.
These struggles might sometimes manifest as disordered eating or even isolating — pulling away from social gatherings, all in an attempt to alter how you look.
Navigating these dimensions can be a challenging journey. But remember this, dear friend…
It’s not your fault, and you are not alone ❤️
God walks with you, offering His unwavering love and acceptance. So let’s continue this journey together. Learn to lean on His strength and to love the body He lovingly designed for you.
