Can I be real with you?
I don’t know — maybe it’s just me…
But it’s the difficult times that awaken my desire to have a closer relationship with our Heavenly Father.
Can you relate?
As a Christian, you know that no matter how much you talk to your bestie about it, the one thing you TRULY need is to go to the throne of grace…
So you go…
And when you finally get past that, “Lord, where are you? I’m so ___________ (fill in the blank) that I don’t feel your presence…”
To that place where you’re delighting in God’s presence — where you can almost feel the weight of your burdens lift away.
(You know that feeling, right?!)
It’s in those moments — when you seek God’s face (even if you feel like the Holy Spirit has left the building 😂) — that you are refined and polished…
So let’s jump right into the 5 ways to deepen your relationship with God…
1. Discover God’s Heart – Immerse in God’s Word
You know how people say — don’t judge a book by its cover?
Well…
The same goes for Scripture.
I’ve always struggled with reading and comprehension. So reading the Bible was intimidating because I didn’t understand it!
But thank you, Jesus, that today there are so many different versions. My personal favorite is The Passion Translation.
Its modern language makes it super easy to understand. TPT reads like a beautifully written novel while maintaining accuracy. It also has a ton of in-depth study notes and commentary.
I digress…
The only way you’ll REALLY get to discover God’s love, grace, and mercy is to dedicate time to reading the beautiful love story that is the Bible.
(Yes, Christian books are great too — but reading your Bible is where you’ll get the good stuff firsthand!)
Jesus has prepared the table for you (Psalm 23:5)…
I love how the Lover of your soul invites you to “sit at the table.”
When you sit at the table, you assimilate Him.
To assimilate means to absorb and to understand God’s goodness — you discover God’s love…
His lavish and never-ending love.
Here are practical ways to connect with God by immersing in Scripture…
Dive into Daily Devotion
- Just like you need food every day — Jesus is the Bread of Life — you need His sustenance.
- Make time each day to engage with the Bible.
- Ask God to let the verses renew your mind — shape your thoughts and actions.
Reflect and Apply
- Pause to reflect on how the Scriptures relate to your life.
- Apply the wisdom you gain from the Bible to navigate your wellness and body image challenges.
Share Insights
- “Each One Teach One”
- Discuss what you’ve learned with a family member, a small group of friends, or in your Bible study group.
- Talking about the things you’ve discovered in the Bible deepens your understanding and strengthens your faith.
Try to memorize one verse per week!

A sincere and heartfelt prayer in your daily routine is a powerful way to strengthen your relationship with God.
Here’s a closer look at great ways to experience a deeper relationship through daily prayer…
Quiet Time
- Establish a dedicated time each day for prayer.
- Consistency builds a rhythm that will improve your relationship with God.
Just Be YOU
- Praying doesn’t have to be elaborate or eloquent.
- Just talk to Him — express your thoughts, feelings, and concerns openly — even your body image and wellness concerns.
- He knows you best, so let your prayers be a genuine reflection of yourself.
Practice Gratitude
- Infuse gratitude into your prayers.
- Appreciate God’s many blessings and tell Him how grateful you are for all the amazing things that your body can do.
- A prayer of gratitude glorifies God.
Share Every Aspect of Life
- Don’t limit your conversations to specific topics.
- God wants to be involved with you — include God in all aspects of your life. Invite Him into the simple things, joyful times, challenges, and decision-making.
