But let’s get to the actual definition 😊
The American Psychological Association says, “self-care has been defined as providing adequate attention to one’s own physical and psychological wellness.”
Self care is simple — it’s taking care of yourself.
Whether you use the whole day of the week for self care, a Sunday morning, afternoon — or just a part of the day of ANY day, it’s a day in which you set aside enough time to nurture YOURself, recharge, and prioritize YOUR overall well-being.
Picture it as your personal retreat — a chance to hit pause on the busyness of life and focus on self-love.
It’s all about…
- recognizing your worth as a daughter of God
- loving yourself so you’re able to love others well

There is no right or wrong way to practice self care — but here are some basic rules…

According to the board-certified psychiatrist Monifa S Seawell, there are 4 golden rules when it comes to self care…
1. Self-care is a lifestyle
Self-care isn’t just about occasional treats.
It’s a way of life where you practice wellness in everything you do, treating yourself and others with respect and kindness.
2. Self-care is not rigid
Your self-care routine changes with your life’s needs and experiences.
Think of it as a flexible guide that adapts as you grow and experience different stages.
3. Self-care sometimes involves elimination
Keeping good company is necessary. Self-care isn’t just about adding good habits; it’s also about letting go of anything toxic in your life.
