Finding Meaning in Bible Verses About Self Love
It’s understandable that for some Christians, the idea of being “lovers of self” might seem a bit off, maybe even like it’s bordering on pride or sin. And I get where they’re coming from, really.
But…
It kinda upsets me to see Christians judge other Christians — especially when the very commandment they’re hesitant about — “Love God and love your neighbor as yourself” — is the same one they might be overlooking…
Still, grace abounds, right? (and a whole lot of patience… 🧘🏻)
Perhaps for them, issues like body image, low self-esteem, or low self-worth aren’t a struggle. So, working on self-love might not be something they need to do — and that’s ok 😊.
I hope you find the intended meaning in these Scriptures and that these Bible verses about self love…
- overwhelm your heart with the true love of God.
- remind you that you are made in God’s image.
- remind you of how He sees you — worthy of love.
- transform you by the renewing of your mind — replace negative thoughts with God’s truth.
- and that you experience life in the freedom graciously given to you by our Lord Jesus Christ!

Psalm 139:13-14 For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.
This is one of my favorite Bible verses for SO many reasons — but mainly because it confirms that you are who He designed you to be — He “knit you together…”
Did you zero in on what you think are flaws the last time you looked in the mirror? I’ve done that too — I started picking apart every little thing. But imagine if, instead, you saw the unique-beautiful person God made — as you just read in Psalm 139:14. And you would recognize the masterpiece in the reflection — because that’s what you are to Him.

Ever felt as small as a sparrow in a world obsessed with perfection?
Reading Matthew 10:29-31 changed that for me. It suddenly hit me — if God cares so deeply for each little sparrow, then He undoubtedly cherishes and values me — struggles and all.
It’s so comforting to know that to Him — we’re not just another face in the crowd 🥰.
Matthew 22:38-39 Jesus replied: ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’
